Firmware Updates

To ensure your device has the latest features and improvements, you can update the wasserleser firmware through the stromleser app.

Why Update Firmware?​

Firmware updates provide:

  • New features and functionality
  • Performance improvements
  • Bug fixes and stability enhancements
  • Security updates
  • Improved sensor accuracy

How to Update Firmware​

Step 1: Check for Updates​

  1. Open the stromleser app
  2. Select your wasserleser device
  3. Tap the settings icon (⚙️)
  4. Navigate to Firmware Update or Device Information
  5. The app will check if an update is available

Step 2: Start the Update​

  1. If an update is available, tap Update or Install
  2. Read any update notes or changelog
  3. Confirm to begin the update process

Step 3: Wait for Completion​

The update process typically takes 3-5 minutes:

  • The app will show update progress
  • The wasserleser LED may blink during the update
  • Do not interrupt the process

Critical Update Requirements​

Do Not Disconnect Power

IMPORTANT: During the entire update process, the wasserleser must NOT be disconnected from power. Disconnecting power during an update can damage the device.

Stay Connected
  • Ensure stable WiFi connection
  • Keep your smartphone nearby and app open
  • Do not close the app during update
  • Ensure power adapter is securely connected

After the Update​

Once the update is complete:

  1. The device will automatically restart
  2. The app will confirm successful update
  3. Your wasserleser will reconnect to WiFi
  4. Normal operation resumes automatically

Update Notifications​

The app will notify you when updates are available:

  • Push notification on your smartphone
  • In-app banner when viewing the device
  • Settings page indicator

You can choose to:

  • Install immediately
  • Install later (reminder will appear)
  • Read update details first

Troubleshooting Updates​

Update Fails to Start​

  • Check WiFi connection strength
  • Ensure device is powered on
  • Restart the app and try again
  • Check for sufficient battery on smartphone

Update Interrupted​

  • Do not disconnect power - wait for completion
  • If accidentally interrupted, device may need factory reset
  • Contact support if device becomes unresponsive

Update Takes Too Long​

  • Normal update time: 3-5 minutes
  • If longer than 10 minutes, check WiFi connection
  • Keep power connected and wait
  • Contact support if no progress after 15 minutes

Device Won't Reconnect After Update​

  1. Wait 2-3 minutes for automatic reconnection
  2. Restart the app
  3. Check WiFi network is available
  4. Try manual reconnection in app
  5. Perform factory reset if necessary (see LED Indicators)

Best Practices​

✓ Update when you have stable WiFi ✓ Update when you don't urgently need water consumption data ✓ Keep device powered continuously ✓ Read update notes before installing ✓ Ensure smartphone has sufficient battery

Checking Current Firmware Version​

To view your current firmware version:

  1. Open the stromleser app
  2. Select your wasserleser
  3. Go to Settings → Device Information
  4. View Firmware Version field

Automatic Updates​

Some updates may be installed automatically:

  • Critical security updates
  • Important bug fixes
  • You'll receive notification before automatic updates

You can manage automatic update settings in the app preferences.
